Father God, we come before you with broken hearts for the lives lost in both Western Mississippi and at Covenant School in Tennessee. It is painful to see the ravages of sin in a broken world. It is impossible to fathom how a person can kill children and the adults seeking to protect those children. We grieve with the mothers, fathers, and extended family of those who died. We also pray for the children who survived, and their parents. Hold them close. Give them wisdom to know what to do next, and how to begin healing as they navigate the trauma inflicted on them. And Father, we pray, too, for the families of the 25 people who died in Mississippi after tornadoes swept through that state. Wrap Your loving arms around them as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. Give wisdom to those who have traveled to Mississippi to assist survivors. We boldly ask for Your supernatural provision for all those who have lost their homes, businesses, places of worship, vehicles, and schools. We ask your Holy Spirit to intercede for all these survivors in the challenging weeks ahead, particularly in those moments when the pain is so deep that it is difficult to know how to pray (Romans 8:26). We are grateful, Father, that You are the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3). We ask for peace, healing, and the freedom from fear that only You can bring (2 Timothy 1:7). In Jesus’ precious Name.
