The Antisemitism Awareness Act—introduced by Rep. Lawler (R-NY) (H.R. 1007) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)* (S. 558)— strengthen antidiscrimination laws in order to better stop antisemitism in education settings. It does this by instructing the Department of Education to take a specific definition of antisemitism into account when assessing whether or not a K-12 school, college, or university has discriminated against a Jewish individual. The change is necessary because past definitions of antisemitism do not fully account for all types of antisemitic behavior. In June 2026, this legislation had 47 Senate co-sponsors and 89 House co-sponsors.
