The Equality Act (H.R. 5/S. 393) is a modern-day Trojan Horse that falsely claims to promote “equality.” In reality, this legislation seeks to destroy religious liberty by forcing people of faith to “accommodate” sexual orientation and any gender identities in every possible way or face a charge of discrimination punishable by federal financial and criminal penalties. On February 25, 2021, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5 by a vote of 224-206. The Senate has not yet brought its version (S. 393) up for a vote.

President Biden has vowed to sign this legislation if it passed in both chambers of Congress; in fact, during the campaign he said it was his #1 legislative priority. Here are a few examples of things that will happen if this legislation becomes law and is upheld by the courts:

• “Traditional marriage” would be labelled a discriminatory “sex stereotype” in federal law.
• Women only athletic teams would be forced to allow biological males to compete on their teams.
•  Any biological man who identifies as a woman would be allowed to share “restrooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms” with biological women [Sec. 110(b)2]. This would apply to businesses, public and private schools, Churches, hospitals, camps, and domestic violence shelters, among other places.
• A landlord, transportation provider, school, or any other entity that serves the public could be sued if an individual claims they were discriminated against on the basis of “gender identity,” which is an ever-shifting concept.
• Under the bill’s new definition of “sex,” not allowing abortion-on-demand would be equivalent to “discrimination against pregnancy.”
• Conscience protections would end, which would force health care providers perform or participate in abortions, sex change surgeries on minor children, or other types of medical treatment that violate their strongly held religious beliefs.
